How to use a slide rule... the course

I learned how to use a slide rule when I was a little kid. My father carried one with him when he worked as an engineer back in the stone age.

I have one of these, unfortunately not one of this quality, though:

I CAN ACCEPT A DEGREE OF PRACTICAL DEPENDENCY ON A FEW MECHANICAL CONTRIVANCES FOR THE THE CONVENIENT PERFORMANCE OF CERTAIN OPERATIONS.

BUT I SHAN'T HAVE ANY DEGREE OF DEPENDENCY ON ANYTHING WHICH REQUIRES AN ELECTRICAL POWER SOURCE OR BATTERY OF ANY KIND.

ELECTRONIC DEPENDENCY IS SIMPLY UNNACCEPTABLE TO ME. REASONS? TOO OBVIOUS TO BE STATED, I HOPE.

BESIDES, I RATHER LIKE MOST MECHANICAL CONTRAPTIONS. OF THE MORE COMPLEX DEVICES OF THAT NATURE, I FIND THE INTRICACY OF THEIR INTERNAL MECHANISMS HAS A CERTAIN AESTHETIC APPEAL TO ME.

I WAS NOT EXPECTING YOU TO ANSER IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. SO IT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITES, MERELY LAST ON THE LIST. I SEE. I'D HAVE RATED IT MUCH LOWER THAN THAT MYSELF. STILL, AS YOU LIKE TO SAY EACH NIGHT BEFORE KISSING YOUR COW, DE GUSTIBUS NON EST DISPUTANDUM.

I refuse to be dependant on anything mechanical or electronical.

But of the two dependencies, I'd chuse the mechanical over the electronical.

I can accept a degree of practical dependency on a few mechanical contrivances for the the convenient performance of certain operations.

But I shan't have any degree of dependency on anything which requires an electrical power source or battery of any kind.

So... the Antikythera mechanism[1] was rightly sunk to the bottom of the sea in antiquity?

Now, about 'Stonehenge' ... the Georgia Guidestones of the Megalithic era?

STONEHENCE WAS REBUILT IN THE 1950S. ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT FROM THE 19TH CENT. OR BEFORE IS SCANT INDEED.

THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM IS, IN ALL PROB., AN ARTIFACT OF THE HIGHLY ADVANCED CIVILISATION WHICH APPEARS TO HAVE ENJOYED A WORLDWIDE REACH. AN EXAMINATION OF THE CONTRAPTION WILL REVEAL AN INTRICATE MECHANISM OF SUCH ACCURACY & COMPLEXITY THAT IT DEFIES ANY EXCLAMATION THAT CAN BE CONTORTED TO FIT WITHIN THE CONFINES OF MAINSTREAM HISTORY.

THE CELESTIAL ALIGNMENTS, THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE STARS, THE PHASES & PROGRESSION OF THE SUN & MOON, & ALL OTHER CELESTIAL OBSERVATIONS CAN BE RIMED WITH AB UNPARALLELED DEGREE OF PRECISION. IN THAT BYGONE ÆRA IN WHICH THE DEVICE WAS CONSTRUCTED, THE PLANISPHÆRIC MODEL (WHICH WOULD BE DUBBED A “FLAT EARTH MODEL,” EVEN ALTHOUGH A PLANISPHÆRE IS A SNOWGLOBE; THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF THE SNOWGLOBE IS A SPHERE)—IN THAT MODEL, WE JUST HAPPEN TO LIVE ON A FLAT WITHIN THE PLANISPHÆRE. ALLOW ME TO CLARIFY EXACTLY WHAT THIS PLANISPHÆRIC MODEL IS.

1ST, IS THE EARTH, ACCORDING TO THIS MODEL, A FLAT DISC, FLOATING IN WHAT AMOUNTS TO A HELIOCENTRIC IN NATURE? THAT WAS THE WORKING PRACTICAL & THEOERETICAL MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE. THERE IS A SORT OF 'BOTTOM', A STRATUM OF SUFFICIENT DENSITY IN RELATION TO EVERYTHING ABOVE IT, THAT IT FUNCTIONS AS A FLAT SURFACE IN RELATION TO ANY SOLID OBJECT SURROUNDED BY AIR

MORE LATER.
