You can go with an 'image host' for putting up images somewhere you can hot link them. If you have a relatively anonymous flicker or whatever that sort of works too.
But we've had a lot of problems with image hosts in the past -- their demise has even broken smilies at the Auld Phora Syne. <- cool new term and happy New Year's Day, by the way on the Old Style calendar.[1]
This thread goes over your 'homegrown' options. These have their own problems -- people get old, they die and with them their servers. But there are two ways to solve the Image Hoasting Problem (which isn't the world's foremost mind you) -- DIY or let the Man do it for you. Aryans already know the correct answer.

If you click through an image you like, you should get to a page that has 'Embed Codes' at the bottome, with BBCODE you can cut and paste. Uploading images to Titzowt is simple and intuitive.
I personally use a second technique, my 'social media' site http://kitsap.whitespace.com which is the 'Facebook of the Crust' (cringe) but lets you do things like upload images, have galleries, create 'fan pages', or create your own group to join, etc. I mostly use it for image hoasting. Click through an image and you will see an 'original link' or something like that, and get a URL you can then hotlink.
I'm not forever (I'm about Raggers age give or take) but I'll try to make reasonable 'digital arrangements' in the next year so your shit doesn't die with me when my time comes. YMMV in the Rapture though.
