About 'outside'
The women of SC had a particular accent in that generation. The only movie I know that gets it right is _Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil_... it's about Savannah, GA across the river, but the old women in that movie absolutely nail it.
As a young boy, I got turned outside every day from Spring until Fall [[as a bare tenderfoot lad until they toughened up and grass and ass-fault were no longer painfool]] and if I heard that voice calling my name I knew... Oh shit, chores. Other than that, I wandered about the woods, communing with plants, birds, and the other boys.
