How do you feel about the proposed tik tok ban?

I feel tiktok is primarily an entertainment platform, though it could just be how the algorithm treats me. I don't see it as a very political platform, but obviously politicians do. However Cortez, Paul, Ramaswamy, Gabbard, (RF) Kennedy and Trump have all come out against the Ban. With Trump it's a flip flop, as he previously supported a ban. I think TikTok is a good idea. It assigns videos to you based on your tastes instead of having a giant list of followers. I don't like the idea of banning it and Biden already lost my vote due to foreign policy but he's further losing it (I'll probably vote third party). In summary I'm against the ban. I don't think it's a serious national security threat either. If ideas are right they prove themselves by debate, but ad hominem attacks about who the ideas come from aren't helpful.

I dont like TikTok or use it at all, and theres a whole lot of garbage on there

That being said, the idea of a TikTok ban stinks. Anytime the homo powers that be wanna ban something, u can bet yer last ZOGbuck theyre up to no good.

My feeling is they wanna set the stage for more bans, to control information, while appearing to be "tough on China" lol. Its all fake- and gay

You would think the best way to lessen antisemitism would be to distance yourself as far away from groups like this as possible.
Ingroup claims it is under attack, so clamps down on outgroup ---> outgroup resists having its freedom curtailed -----> ingroup cites resistance as validating its claim of ingroup being under attack

this is the positive feedback loop in play here

each phase and completed cycle ratchets up the heat

Tiktok's content in my feed recently has been much more political than when I used to use it and it was mainly jokes and entertainment. I think TikTok picked up on the fact that I actually want to see politics and is feeding me politics. When I first wrote this post, there was a big layoff between when I used tiktok before and now. But I restarted my usage and definitely see more politics.

I suspect the initial complaint about it is that because it's Chinese, it's basically the only social media that Western intelligence doesn't have at-will access to and it's pissing them off. Secondarily, it seems Americans are lining up to buy it. That it's not in the grip of Western intelligence is the only really attractive thing about it because besides that, it's a poorly-moderated dump with little value. Most of the content I'm seeing is basically dumb games, Democrat troll farm accounts, Trump troll farm accounts, trannies (usually white guys over age 30) asserting they're really girls, tranny advocacy troll farm accounts, Muslims doing bad da'wah, atheists insisting Jesus didn't exist, and a bunch of other fickle crap. The text boxes allow so little to type you can't have any real conversation. It's basically short videos and sound-byte length comments.

Speak and be heard. What they do on platforms like Facebook is they shadowban. They let you say it, but few people see it, while everyone sees your friend's baby photos or party.
