You're mistaken, they always supported intervention in favor of Communism. The whole anti-nuke craze was ultimately just a cynical effort to force the West to disarm "in the name of peace" and to ensure the Soviets could achieve parity / superiority. Leftists had a big attachment to the Soviet Union and the East Bloc and it took at least 20 years before they could go out and promote Karl Marx to the general public with a straight face again. In an American context, antiwar and non-interventionist views have typically been the domain of leftist thought, until the end of the cold war.
Nowadays, so-called leftists in the USA are warmongers par excellence.
How the American left has been co-opted and turned by the state-security imperialists and oligarchs has been nothing less than amazing but deeply disturbing transformation, a dark reminder that propaganda works, conditioning is effective, and exposes the totalitarian grip that the control grid has on its citizen-subjects.
With regards to power projection, there is practically NO difference between the American left or right.
At least a small segment of the reactionary right has now discovered antiwar and non-interventionism, which seems to have been almost completely abandoned by American leftists in their zeal to convert the rest of the world to postmodern liberalism...
Despite the outgoing far-right government trying really hard to use the conflict in Ukraine for domestic purposes — both in terms of electoral gains and to justify spending on military hardware — this failed to gain any real traction. The impact of the war on our election was thus negligible.
Levica stridently opposes any kind of military aid to Ukraine, as it would only serve to prolong the conflict. Despicable as Putin's invasion is, it did not fall out of the sky. NATO is neck deep in terms of its involvement in the situation. Indeed it was NATO's drive towards the east and its strategy of encircling Russia that destabilised the region in the first place.
Instead of working towards a ceasefire and quick resolution to the conflict, Washington is using Ukraine to bleed Russia as much as it can, at the expense of the working class — in Ukraine, Europe and Russia. Hence, its preference for military aid and sanctions over diplomacy.
In Robert Cairo’s brutal biography of LBJ (the Path to Power), LBJ showed little or no interest in his early Texas political life in anti White issues such as Black Civil Rights, opening the flood gates to NW, third world immigration, encouraging the Black underclass to riot and loot and destroy American cities. LBJ’s early life in Texas presents the image of a back slapping Texan, looking to make deals, do favors and expect favors from White Texans. But LBJ changed his policies after he became immersed in the wealthy, East Coast, Washington D.C. Liberal elite world of the Washington Post/NY Times.
