Was this guy maybe one of the most lucky sons o' bitches of all time ?..

Think about it.. he was the leader of the mongols and the mongols, geographically speaking , had one of the largest empires in history ..

And, he once even ended up as the chinese emperor .. It's no big secret that China even in old times was a country quite wealthy..

So... the leader of a tribe with one of the biggest empires in history plus the ruler of a country of significance even in olden times .

Quite a figure.

Today the mongols are nowhere on the level from then , though .

But, if you think about it...

They once took Eurasia and a leader even ended up as the Chinese emperor..

lol.. it's often claimed that Ghenghis Khan already had pretty much a man could desire, military success and "lots of broads", lol ...

But Kublai certainly also was one lucky son of a bitch lol, for reasons given above ..

.. I think when it comes to the saying ' Only the forces of nature itself could stop that... ' it might somewhat even be true for Kublai ..

As everybody knows, he tried to conquer Japan as well but the 'kamikaze'-winds dealt his army a deadly blow ( 'blow' quite literally, by the way )

kamikaze_0.jpg

Had he succeeded in conquering Japan as well I suppose one could have said that they ( Mongols) would have had all of Asia (at least on the surface )

Given that Eurasia ( the land-mass encompassing Western Europe in the west up to Japan in the east , from the arctic regions in the north to the Islamic deserts in the south ) is the largest land-mass on earth , they ( the mongols) had very very much of it.

Also one has to remember that back then the world was much less 'known' than today when it comes to geography....so they might as well have thought they had 'all of it ' ..

Well... After the failed attempt of conquering Japan where the mongols were defeated by ' the forces of nature' the mongol empire wouldn't last too very much longer ...

By the way , the Japanese thought these winds to be divine...

And after all... when a 'force of nature' saves you from one the most successful armies of all time who wouldn't think of it to be divine...?

Forces of nature seem to be synonymous with the divine, whereas recognizing the Tao, in CS Lewis’ sense, derives from reason in the broad sense of that term.

The Asiatics, since old times , held on to many different religions...
Before many 'organised religions ' came to being in Asia such as buddhism, the ancient Asiatics surely held on to shamanistic stuff et al .

Buddhism came from India .. since India often in history was a multiracial entity ( or multiracially ruled like for example under an asian mogul ) it is still not out 100 per cent whether buddhism , associated with the asiatic people today, mostly , was an original asiatic concept..

In fact many people question the race of the original Buddha, should he have truly existed.. I think it's fair to say that India truly often was a multiracial entity, Aryans mixed with dark-skins lived there for example, even Asiatics..

India also for a time was under islamic rule.

Given the multiracial makeup of indian society for a long time the historical Buddha, should he have existed, may have been many things, ranging from an Aryan, even a ' darkie ' to maybe even asiatic..

The fact is that buddhism quickly spread to the Asiatics...

From what I know the essence of Buddhism is to quote "free oneself from the everwinding circle of reincarnation" and to " enter Nirvana "...
.. you know, I always was a proponent of the opinion that buddhism may have had a pacifying effect on the asiatics ..

The Asiatics for a long time were fierce steppe-riders , always out to conquer on the continent of Eurasia ...

When many asiatic peoples became buddhists they more or less made themselves sedentary...

Hmmmm.. Did I in the paragraph above the last characterise the Mongols, maybe ? As opposed to a sedentary realm like China or Vietnam ?

.. that's what I talked about.. Mongols were closer to the roots....

Concerning Kublai...
It was often claimed, it is said, the he, as a Mongolian tribesman, had become to ' china-ised ' over the course of his reign, i. e. that he allegedly " forgot his mongolian past".. while taking part in alleged 'decadent' Chinese pleasures...

You know the saying "Power can corrupt" ?

I don't think too many people would be too safe from this assumption ..

.. many of you may be familiar with the 1998 Disney movie 'Mulan '.. it features a chinese female going to war against a hunnic invasion of China .
It is by no means proven whether this tale is true (maybe it is some chinese legend ) but in the movie I had the impression that the name of the hunnic leader 'Shan Yu ' could have been a word-allusion to the Mongol-leadership of china. The city they made capitol was Shangdu, often called 'Xanadu' (...)
