The list, Tunis Ghey Bar version:
This thread mostly a placeholder to remind me to answer By the way - if you would develop a reading list for pre-1820 stuff, that would be great. more fully. To get started, I've attempted such a thing a number of times, both at my own forums and also the Phora and Salo. The Salo version I...

But learning the Bible in your Mother's tongue comes first. Shouldn't take more than 8 years of *anyone's* time unless they have a disability.
Homeric Greek a la BAP optional, but that's cool too, for you pagans.
It is odd that Hebrew is typically not included in the seminaries...
So much of the NT is "lost" because its cultural context is ignored...as if its players wore Italian garb...or even a Svyta...as apparently these details matter...
But back to the Matt 13 parable and the importance of UNDERSTANDING and the seed...
As NOT understanding allows the seed sown to be snatched away by the wicked one for it was sown by the WAYside...
Listeners to this parable would immediately know of the importance and impact of waysides and paths as scripture is replete with references of one travelling through life...having to choose or follow a path...

Torah itself is readily understood as a Guide..."a light unto my feet...my path" Ps 119: 105 and "reproofs of instruction
are the way of life" Prov 6:23
The word Torah, which is the Strong's word 8451 in the Hebrew dictionary, comes from the Hebrew word, "Yarah ". The Hebrew word, "Yarah" is the Strong's word 3384. The meaning of the word, "Yarah " is "to teach, to point out as aiming the finger, to lay a foundation" . By examining the Hebrew meaning of the word, TORAH, we can understand that the word Torah means, "to instruct, to teach, to point out as aiming the finger, to lay a foundation."
In fact the first century ekklesia was known as a sect called "the Way" (
Acts 9:2;
19:9,
23;
22:4;
24:14,
22)
As in the NT its written
John 14:6 that He is “the way and the truth and the life.” Luke says that
Aquila and Priscilla explained to Apollos “the way of God” more fully (
Acts 18:26). Peter refers to Christianity as “the way of truth” (
2 Peter 2:2). And the writer of Hebrews says that Jesus’ broken body is the “new and living way” for us to enter the Most Holy Place (
Hebrews 10:19–20).
So no wonder He described Himself as the way the truth and the light...His audience had heard this before...
Psalm 119:1 "Blessed are the undefiled in the WAY (derek), who walk in the law (Torah) of YHVH."
Psalm 119:142 "Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law (Torah) is the TRUTH."
Proverbs 13:14 "The law (Torah) of the wise is a fountain of LIFE (chay), to depart from the snares of death."
So those that knew Torah were now encouraged to see Him as the LIVING WORD...as if Torah was a person...
"Follow ME" He said
So what's this about a wicked one coming to snatch it away?...like a bird in air?...since the path is busy and seeds can't sprout and take root...
Can a wicked one snatch away from "the Way"?...from even His path of righteousness?...can false teachers or personal interpretation lead to a wrong understanding and thus a snatching away by the wicked one? After all... the counterfeit looks more like the original but is NOT...
Obviously understanding is necessary for the seed sown to sprout...is why "come let us reason"...and yes the wicked one can come and snatch away...
