Without temperature-recoarding devices, it's difficult to determine. I can oanly suspect power loss while pulling heavy loads uphill on a hot summer day. Unlike the real Volkswagen Beetles, the Apes do not use thermoastatic regulation of incoming cooling air. The same amount of cubic feet per minute cooling air is forced through the fan in summer as it is in winter. What's worse is that cold winter air is moar dense. Meaning that the winter air-cooling efficiency is greater than that in summer, similar to how aircraft are able to ascend from a runway within a shorter distance in winter than in summer

Liquid-cooling will evidently decrease engine wear, while improving overall fuel milage. The only drawback with this conversion will be the relinquishment of its present trouble-free crank throw induction. Instead, reed valves will take over. They are known to break.
Let's see if this wörks:

I would consider adding a temp gage for the cyl jug

The reason I ask is bcuz as long as the air-cooling is sufficient, I would recommend against converting to liquid-cooling and all the potential troubles that entails

Isnt that VW themostat there to prevent carb icing in winter? Do you hav a problem with the Ape warming up in winter or icing up?

So did Volkswagen, decades ago. Simplicity is the most reliable way to go; Less is actually moar. Both have their dis- and advantages. The Ape's reliable fan cannot compensate for the longevity of a much less reliable water cooled system. The example presented in my previous poast isn't an ideal one, given that they welded shut a cylinder intendedly designed for air-cooling. A cylinder designed for water-cooling will have tighter tolerances, becuzz a better regulated cylinder need not expand and contract as extreme as an air-cooled

Later Beetles were free from carburetor icing:

I doant recall ever having mine iced. That may be due to the long induction system extending under the bed installed on original Apes. Dix who install simple cut-offs are likely to have theirs iceing up:

The inlet hoal is of a calibrated diameter. Altering its size suppoasedly alters perfoarmance. I left mine completely stock, for now. If i go for a larger cylinder, I will infoarm myself on what alterations will become necessary:
